Aliamanu Elementary School
Since 2004, the Aliamanu Elementary School student council has spearheaded the school’s annual Nickel Fair. The fair includes game booths, a bounce house and a dunk tank, and all the students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade pay nickels to play games and quarters for the dunk tank and bounce house. All of the proceeds are donated to Pacific Historic Parks to help with the restoration of the Arizona Memorial and the Visitor Center. The student council schedules a field trip to the Arizona Memorial every year to present the money that was raised from the Nickel Fair.
This year, the students donated more than $1,000. From 2007 to 2015, their donations have exceeded $11,000.
The student council advisors are Steve Miyasato and Leilani Reyes, and Alana Libed, pictured above, is the student council president. The school’s military partners from CID Learning Site Hawaii, the USS Port Royal, the USS Chosin, and the 747th Communications Squadron have volunteered to help in the game booths over the years.
